Re: XYLN and ALA

Ken,
Congraulations on the great XYLN call. It didn't go unnoticed by me. I never thought it would be taken over by Alcatel (Or any traditional telecom equipment company). Still kind of puzzles me because I figured XYLN was strictly into LAN only. Did I miss something that obviously Alcatel knows? How does this purchase get Alcatel into the same arena as a NT/Bay or LU/ASND purchase? XLYN was a fundamentally sound investment, but I never dreamed the likes of Alcatel purchasing them (at a 100% premium no less!). I had an order to buy XYLN at around 16 or so. It never triggered and I didn't bother raising it. And then I just cancelled it a week or so later. Ouch!
Thanks,
MikeM(From Florida)

Symbol: XYLN -- There's no need to tip for deliveries from Xylan. The company makes pizza box-sized devices (switches and routers; an early product is called PizzaSwitch) that direct data transmissions throughout corporate LANs. Xylan specializes in making versatile switches that can operate across different types of networks, an advantage at a time when many companies are upgrading their systems. Current products include OmniStack and the flagship OmniSwitch.
