Somebody on the Yahoo! MRVC thread mentioned the ALA paid $37/ share
for XYLN, which equates to $6.8 million per engineer.

I don't know if that number is accurate or not, but it caused me
to look back at my CC notes file. This is interesting and shows
how much MRVC is building their infrastructure - currently
outstripping their revenue growth. Add in the expenses to build
their new foundry, PISTOL lab and purchase lithography equipment,
and you see a good part of the reason for the EPS drop. Of course
the plunge in GMs is the other main reason.

Q1 1998 Q4 1998 9 months Growth%
Sales and Support 254 325 27.95%
R&D 140 190 35.71%
Combined 394 515 30.71%
Revenue $60.83M $74.88M 23.09%

Also, using that $6.8 million per engineer = $1.29 Billion or $48.50
per share using the 26,639,000 common shares number MRVC used in the
Q4 EPS report.

MRVC is obviously laying the infrastructure for a much larger company.
Major new products are coming. Hopefully alliances and contracts will
as well.

Anybody out there have R&D and S&Support numbers for other back
quarters?

I'm with Dennis.

Consider MRVC. Consider CIEN.
No comparison. Cien IR has a listserv for those interested to get news releases by email as they go to the news wires.

The only reason MRVC doesn't set up an investor listserve is they don't want to. They don't want to share what they are doing with us little nothing investors.

The only reason CIEN does is they WANT TO inform their investors.

I never would have thought that management could own too much of a company's stock until I got some graduate credits from MRVC U (School of Hard Knocks, Class of '98)

Maybe some day management will need the goodwill of every shareholder they have. Maybe that day will never come. Life isn't fair.
