Another interesting area that is somewhat related is voice identification/verification. Each human voice is unique with its own "voice print" or "sound print" if you will. There are many voice enabled security applications yet to be discovered which are inexpensive and convenient. For example, using voice for password protection when logging on will be available soon. Point is, there are many application areas opening up using sound and the processing power of a PC or separate DSP processor. The whole area is still in its infancy...lots of consumer applications yet to come.
