In a 17 year bull market yes it is. But do not elude yourself into thinking that stocks will outperform anything in the "long run". That is the greatest lie that has been fed to the public in the past few years. Read the very first article on the Art of Investing thread to see how for the 30+ years since 1966, in real terms, you would have just broken even. And that is if you had not been scared out of your position in the many bear markets, crashes, and mania's along the way. I've also done some analysis which dates back to over a thousand years ago (now that is BIG PICTURE) and I can tell you that in the long run, you break about even no matter what you invest in.
