VARs are object of design for first XML data server
Amber Howle

Burlington, Mass.-Only VARs will have authorization to bring to market the first data server using the hot new eXtensible Markup Language (XML).

Object Design Inc., based here, launched a VAR-only campaign to deliver its recently released XML data server, eXcelon, which enables people to build XML Web applications.

The eXtreme Advantage Partner Program offers VARs a broad range of training and support services for the eXcelon data server while leaving Object Design's in-house sales force out of the game.

"We felt a direct-sales force would not be the appropriate channel to dive into the hundreds of vertical markets that can use this product," said Sue Ryan, director of product marketing at Object Design. "eXcelon is a perfect product for the channel because it is highly customizable."

Object Design's eXcelon can be used as an XML application cache for existing data sources or as a complete data management system for new XML-based applications. Several Object Design VARs already are creating eXcelon-based applications to tackle business problems in areas like E-commerce, knowledge management, enterprise systems integration and customer service.

Srini Sankaron, president of Palo Alto, Calif.-based VAR Global Automation Inc., said his company is building a classified advertising service using eXcelon, which it plans to resell to its publishing clients.
