Setting the ID to some arbitrary value is far easier than hacking the software which retrieves the ID. As of now, in my opinion, using the CPU ID in its current implementation for user verification isn't a very good form of security. Even Intel is admitting that this method isn't perfect. But things would get even worse if you were allowed to program the ID to any value that you want. The only sensible solution is to design a "This key will self-destruct in five seconds" switch so that the privacy concerned are properly addressed. Tenchusatsu
