OK, now I'm no expert, but basically here's what I know about MP3's . . . MP3 is a format used to compress sound files so that entire songs can be downloaded and stored on computers. Generally they are between 3-5 megs, and have about the same sound quality as CD's. Because of the small size and easy accessibility over the net, many people simply download the MP3's of their favorite songs instead of going and shelling out the $13 for the CD. This has the music industry up in arms. They are launching an all out campaign against the MP3 format and those sites offering them for free. The music industry sees internet distribution as the future of music sales, but they want and need some way to regulate it. For that reason they are trying to create an encrypted format that cannot be freely distributed like MP3's can be. So far they don't really have anything, but it is pretty certain that they will in the near future. With that in mind, it would seem like MP3's will soon be relegated to being only a means of pirating music. Unless TMM is going to be the one to come up with a format for compressing songs into a small, CD quality, encrypted file, I don't know how much long term good can come from any sort of marriage between TMM and MP3's.
