AT&T May Complete TCI Purchase Next Week, CFO Somers Says

New York, March 3 (Bloomberg) - AT&T Corp., the largest U.S. telephone company, may complete its $56.9 billion purchase of Tele-Communications Inc. as early as next week, Chief Financial Officer Daniel Somers said.

TCI Could Offer TV Guide Channel to Digital Customers, WSJ Says

New York, March 3 (Bloomberg) -- Tele-Communications Inc. could agree as soon as this week to offer United Video Satellite Group Inc.'s TV Guide Interactive channel to its digital cable television subscribers over 10 years, the Wall Street Journal said, citing unnamed executives familiar with the plans. TV Guide Interactive is a supplementary package to cable subscribers thst offers more channels, music transmission and pay-per-view, and could be offered in 4.5 million homes by year end under a pact with TCI, up from 1.5 million homes now. TV Guide executives have confirmed discussions are under way, saying yesterday that ''TCI believes very much in this product,'' while TCI, which is being acquired by AT&T Corp., declined comment, the paper said.

United Video said yesterday it completed its $2.51 billion purchase of TV Guide, the leading weekly TV-listings magazine, from Rupert Murdoch's News Corp., and said it now plans to start new magazines and expand overseas. (WSJ 3/3 B9 wsj.com)
