BA,

We may just have to wait a few years to see who's right on this one. I'd still rather sell shovels to the miners than dig for gold. I didn't buy into VDAT at $1.19 but my average basis is in the $4's and I did have the option of trading my VDAT for BCST at $60 and I didn't. From a ROI standpoint I'd say I made the right decision, wouldn't you? By the way I didn't mention the return on my VDAT warrants which I bought for $0.10 and $0.93 and which are currently worth $8. I won't bore you with that calculation.

At the end of the day, success in the market is measured by ROI of individual investors, not by market cap, strategy, worthiness, eyeballs, or anything else. ROI is all I care about, and with that I rest my case.

It may be worth at trip to Boston (not Cambridge, which is on the other side of the river) to see the BCST case discussed at HBS. Do you know which professor is writing (has written) it? I can guarantee you the wolves will tear it apart (no offense, they do that to the best of companies, that's the case method for you). The lesson of this case (and there is always a lesson) might well be that luck and timing play as much a role in success as good planning or a well-thought-out concept. No doubt also some lessons about innovation in a changing world.

By the way, I never watched Monica, seems I had plenty of other choices. But then I don't watch television, I watch shows. Guess I'm just different ;-)
