Andrew,

I had read earlier in the forum that someone was
saying a reseller had said there was a design flaw in the PCI bus
that was delaying shipments. The information I posted was
the result of me asking a SGI engineer if there was any
fact to this. Other than the person who posted the first
time about a possible PCI bus design flaw I had not heard this.
I was just trying to see if I could confirm or deny it.

The 540 has two PCI buses and they are both 64 bit. Like
you correctly pointed out they take a voltage that is
not widely supported yet, but OEMs will have cards on the
way very soon I suspect. Maybe the person who made the initial
post about hearing about a PCI design flaw can elaborate
on where they got the info from. All the SGI people I spoke
with said it was not true.

In an earlier post than the one you quoted I posted some info
regarding what SGI told me in person, which is in line with
the info you provided, i.e. no flaw but spotty card support
for awhile.

I have yet to hear anyone claim the flaw exists other than the original poster.

Best regards

Kirk
