Java/Web-based computing is definitely competition for Citrix - much as Templeton states that Java is 'Server Based Computing'. My organization works with Citrix WinFrame/MetaFrame - and it is seen as longer term competition for Citrix. As software developers start moving away from WIN32 development - and moving towards Java/HTML based application development - the need for Citrix as the third tier goes away - as it relates to centralized application distribution. Having said that - Citrix still reigns supreme in there centralized administrative tools - that Java cannot compete with - i.e. helpdesk shadowing/application push/etc.

Moral of the story is that most mission-critical business applications are still WIN32 aware - and will likely be so for a good amount of time - and Citrix will continue to benefit from that.

The question still remains on whether Microsoft will ever push significant development effort into making RDP a formidable competitor of ICA. If Microsoft does make RDP full-featured - then Citrix would have a major issue at hand with their MetaFrame product.
