Teleglobe Announces Bilateral Interconnection Agreement With France Telecom
RESTON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 3, 1999--
Expands Service Offerings Between U.S. and France

Teleglobe USA Inc. announced a formal agreement with France Telecom for the international interconnection of their respective telecommunications networks.

This agreement allows the carriers to directly exchange voice traffic between the United States and France and benefit from each other's networks for transit traffic services.

"By lowering the cost of traffic delivery to France, this agreement allows Teleglobe to offer more competitive rates to our customers, as well as expand the menu of services between the United States and France," said John Cahill, president, Teleglobe USA Inc. "This bilateral contract, which provides for network sharing, will maximize overall network use and increase revenues."

The French international telecommunications market is Western Europe's third largest with over 700 million minutes of two-way traffic between France and the United States in 1997.

Teleglobe handles global traffic for more than 450 carriers worldwide, and has grown to service more than 100 domestic carriers in the United States, including several Regional Bell Operating Companies (RBOCs) such as Ameritech and BellSouth. Through its corporate sales offices in Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, San Francisco and Washington, D.C., Teleglobe also offers Fortune 1000 companies the same quality network coverage, customer support and commitment that its carrier customers have valued for decades.

Teleglobe Inc. (NYSE, TSE, ME: TGO) is a recognized leader in global telecommunications. Through its subsidiary Teleglobe Communications Corporation, the company develops and supplies global connectivity services to carriers, switchless resellers, Internet service providers, multinational corporations and broadcast customers worldwide. Through Excel Communication's proven marketing and distribution channels, Teleglobe also caters to an expanding international retail customer base.

The company is the fourth-ranked long distance provider in the United States and, according to a recent KMI Corporation study, the third largest owner of international undersea fiber optic cable systems in the world. Teleglobe has a 50% interest in ORBCOMM, the world's first commercial low-earth-orbit, satellite-based, data communications system.

France Telecom is one of the world's leading telecommunications carriers, with 1998 consolidated operating revenues of FRF 161.7 billion, 33.7 million telephone lines in service and operations in more than 50 countries.

In addition to local and long-distance telephony, France Telecom provides businesses and consumers with international telephony, data, wireless, online, Internet, cable-TV, broadcast and value-added services. Additional information is available at francetelecom.com.
