<<Many people are giving minute odds to IOM when it comes to ZIP being a standard on computers. IMO the odds are extremely high that IOM will be the new standard for removable storage>>

This is the "holy grail" for IOM longs. I have been in and out of IOM (IOMG) for several years, waiting for signs that ZIP will "replace" the floppy. Unfortunately, its not even close yet. Still less than 10% of new computer boxes have ZIP. That's not too good IMO.

We will know that this step is closer ONLY when at least one computer manufacturer puts ZIP in EVERY box they make. I just don't see that happening on the horizon anywhere.

Now, I have been of the view that the way to accomplish this is with a dual-slot/combo drive with both a ZIP and a floppy in the same unit. This is exactly what the boxmakers did during the switch to the 3.25 inch floppy from the old 5.5 inch floppy. These "combo" drives spanned the transition period.

It has been said that IOM has conducted "surveys" indicating there is no "demand" for such a product. And I would say...SO WHAT? The "holy grail" of replacing the floppy essentially involves selling the 90% of computers currenlty without ZIP to purchasers WHO DON'T KNOW THEY "NEED" THE ZIP.

To my way of thinking, such a combo drive, if cheap enough, might be a way of getting a DELL or MICRON, to include such a device in every box.
