jkb, I'm very surprised to hear how many users can be connected concurrently. You say 40+ in some, and then 1,300/19= 68, in others. So these are MUCH higher numbers than I thought possible. Now Templeton's comment about going after the enterprise market makes more sense. I just went to the Citrix website to dig up what they say. It's on the last page of their product brochures in Adobe file format under the sub-heading, "Scalability." It's a big file, and slow server! Kind of ironic. This would have been a great instance where it would pay to only send screen refreshes to the client. I think they even mention that in their brochure as a good use for their product. People don't want to wait and download big files to see nice color brochures. Anyhow for MetaFrame they say 20 users per processor. For Winframe it says the same thing. So your figures above indicate these are servers probably running two processors. So it all seems to fit well. Thanks for that bit of real world news. Pretty impressive! Now the enterprise comment makes a little more sense. Especially if Microsoft addresses the scalability issue you mention with the next release of NT. Below is the exact Q&A regarding enterprise market. It sounds just like it's a very general comment. Hard to figure if Templeton actually said, "BMC or Computer Associates," himself. MikeM(From Florida) PS Do you have any real world examples of Citrix software being used on wireless devices? ---------------------------------- Q: You've said you want to make Citrix more of an enterprise sofware company, such as BMC or Computer Associates. Why? A: We think this market for server-based computing is an enterprise market. We want to deal with large customers and supply a strategic piece of the computing infrastructure. If we do that, we can make a bigger profit.
