Michelle, my thoughts on Walmart:

It targets/meets more than 50% of the consumers for more than 50% of their general-consumption-needs.

As I remember Wal-Mart's hyper-growth years were 1982-1989 or so, and they blew every other retailer's returns away during that period, with the possible exceptions of Gap Stores or Circuit City (which was catering to the VCR boom at the time).
