no other Gods The one God concept was encoded and then survived because it lead naturally to a strong - one ruler society. The pantheon concept lead more naturally to democracies and representative government. The fractured sects of the U.S. have led to the curious phenomina where a majority claims there is just one God but there many interpretations of who or what that one God is. Instead of the My God is better than your's infighting we get the My God is, and your's isn't interpretations. It would be a lot more amusing if they weren't all getting a free ride on my considerable tax dollars. TP
