If you think machismo is the driving force for that association, you don't know much about the Latin culture. I worked for a Spanish Language company and I can assure you that machismo has nothing to do with those views.
These women are very proud of their feminism, and wield it like a sword. Some of feminism's biggest drivers are Hispanic women. These same women revel in their femininity. It is an interesting culture and worthy of a deeper understanding than the general stereotype you nailed on it.
As for steamy soaps and Las Vegas being indicative of anything...I don't think it says much at all. In the middle of the Persian Gulf is an Island (Dubai, I think) that is basically a land of debauchery. Casinos, sex, etc. Playland for the sheiks. Of course, it is very much a Muslim country, as well. But I don't think you'd call the sheiks anything but prudish in their outward behavior.
And remember, I pointed out the hypocrisy of our society. So Las Vegas is really more indicative of exactly how hypocritical we are.
