You confuse temporal placement with cause and effect. The Christians had already broken into three groups by 700AD. The vikings had one of the more sophisticated systems of elections predating the norman kings of England. The ruler was elected for life, but the election was by all of the clans after a period of discussion and campaigning.
The Magna Carta was as much a coup as it was an attempt at representative democracy.
