ANGLETON, Texas, March 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Benchmark Electronics Inc. (NYSE: BHE), today announced that it has completed its purchase of certain assets from Stratus Computer Ireland, a wholly owned subsidiary of Ascend Communications (Nasdaq: ASND). In connection with the transaction, Benchmark has entered into a three-year supply agreement to provide system integration services to Ascend Communications and Stratus Holding Limited. The transaction was announced on January 22, 1999.

"The portion of the management team and employees dedicated to the Stratus system integration operation in Ireland will transfer and relocate to Benchmark's facility in Dublin. We are very excited to have the opportunity to work with this team," Donald E. Nigbor, president of Benchmark said. "This strategic transaction is part of our long-term plan to provide a fully integrated solution for our global customers."
