The later detail surrounding the "slow merger" actually lends credibility. Specifically, the part about possible changes to DuPont's chemical assets makes this story quite reasonable.

Monsanto's bioag products are starting to get positive attention. Sure, they are killing chemical competitors overnight. But, in this process they also introduce economic efficiencies...large relative improvements are noteworthy, as least to those who understand economics in the western sense.

To put this in contemporary Wall Street terms: Monsanto is in effect introducing "Dell-like attributes" to a number of micro-economies. And as we know, everyone wants to be like Dell. So you are right, particularly as time goes on, Monsanto is a "hot item"...

I live in st. louis where MTC has their world headquarters and i know many current and former employees. The main thing Shapiro needs is a cash cow to fund his "pet projects" with bio and genetic-something in their name...it sounds like DD has just that. The level of debt MTC has now is high and their pipeline is not real strong(from what I hear--could be wrong) One positive I hear over and over is that Celebrex is a real winner and it receives a great deal of good press in st. louis. I can't imagine MTC going solo that much further in the future.
