dlc - I wouldn't be unduly concerned about the downturn in Xoma stock. I own 13 different biotechs and with just 2 exceptions they are all down for 1999 (my exceptions are Immunogen & Elan). Most biotechs have had a bad week.

In fact, Xoma's chart for the year looks substantially healthier than Isis, imclone, aviron and a lot other well known biotechs.

My personal favorite frustration is Cor Therapeutics (Corr). They have an approved marketed blood platelet inhibitor with slowly increasing sales. Rumors abound that their drug (Integrilin) is a superior drug to their one and only competitor and yet the stock resembles a weak swimmer with a heavy rock attached to his/her leg.

I sit here impoverished yet still convinced (or deluded) that owning Cor is as close as you can get to a "sure thing".

What I counsel to all of us is patience. All of us purchased Xoma's stock on the assumptions that its management is professional, honest and conducts itself in good faith. And that their scientific programs are legitimate and competently managed.

The bet we made was on whether or not Neuprex works and can be approved for use. The moment we've all been waiting for is nearly at hand.

Anybody who bails out now only to find out that Neuprex works will feel like an amateur investor who lost their nerve at the last moment.
