My core positions are mutual growth funds so shorting the MDY, SPY, and DIA work well as a hedge. If my core were individual stocks and limited to a specific industry I would likely use the new webs which track sectors. I really like using the amex baskets (webs, spiders, diamonds and whatever they call the mid cap MDY) because they can be easily shorted (on downtics) and you can cover whenever you want. Unlike shorting funds which are eod vehicles.

Hows that NYSE BP looking? Getting near oversold yet?
