You've touched on another subject. We keep thinking in terms of music, but any audio information can be compressed into MP3 format, so all kinds of newsy and booksy kind of information can be carried around.

I can imagine having my computer setup to automatically download information from plural sources (via the internet) into an MP3 player in the morning. Then take the player and head to work and listen to all the stuff on the way.

Gazillions of possibilities.

This will be BIG this coming Christmas, just the same time when digital photography will have its first big big season.

Think big and long!

Ron C and all -

Actually in my view the biggest thing about MP3 is not the equipent or the software or the music but the apparent attractiveness of the whole combination to that greatest of spending groups...yes the group that can spend without limit.....the most aggressive, compulsive, I need I want I must have group yes my friends its those rude nasty smelly awkward bunch that are finally goinbg to come to help SNDK ( and I suppose Sony) get even more sales......you guessed it its kids.

Yes kids are nuts about MP3. Anecdotally I'm sure we've all got evidence of this and check out John C Dvorak this week in PC magazine. He makes the point that there is all sorts of illegal downloading and selling of music going on on the net and the record industry is up in arms about it ( Oh dear the artistes aren't making as much money I guess they'll have to cut back a bit) BUT and here's the point, they record companies won't be able to do much by way of criminal proceedings because the people doing the illegal selling etc are ALL UNDERAGE. Great.

Just the idea of all these record company executives and lawyers trying to get their hands on a bunch of spotty adolescents and being told by the lawyers that they won't be able to get anywhere .....well. Just imagine the lawyers....no dinner for them this week!!

Anyway it all sounds like very good news to me and when Chirstmas comes well....I think for the very first time in my life that I am going to start making recommendations for presents now and so go get them a MP3 player that uses Sandisk memory. Yes folks in fact buy it now in case its sold out. Evey kid in the country should have one. They are environmentally friendly ....yes they are 'green' and they are much healthier than CD players or Minidisks. Just make sure it has Sandisk memory inside for the best results. Sandisk gives you a full sound sepctrum and lots and lots of bass
