Tech Report

Intuit shares dropped 2.8 percent after the company said its $200 million purchase of Computer Resources Inc. is a "natural acquisition" and may fuel further buys. Intuit (INTU) said it will acquire privately held CRI for $100 million in cash and $25 million in stock up front with the remainder in three cash payments of $25 million for the next three years. CRI provides the back-end service for Intuit's payroll processing business, and Chief Financial Officer Greg Santora said the company may look to build on that offering. The company might look at acquiring a 401(k) or health-care operation that serves small businesses, he added. Shares of Intuit fell 2 9/16 to 88. See full story.

Intuit also announced it is filing a complaint against Checkfree Corp. (CKFR) According to Intuit, Checkfree is not complying with a contract the two companies signed in 1998. In that contract, Checkfree agreed to handle bill presentment for Intuit's Quicken.com site and not to offer the product "in certain distribution channels," according to Intuit. Intuit holds about 20 percent of stock in Checkfree.

>>>I love these games. If we make it through tomorrow morning, and the bigger holders(those 20K blocks etc) don't jump ship right yet, well better ourselves by the end of the next five trading days.<<<

I agree. I would speculate that the big investors would have jumped ship today and asked questions later if they were afraid of this lawsuit.

Earning, sales, and subscriber growth will fuel this rocket ship. The information we received from the H&Q conference indicate to me that subscriber growth will accelerate in the next 12-18 months.

I'll paraphrase a prediction I think I read from Buffet_2000, $65 in the summer, $100 by the end of the year.

Sam (perhaps a Berkshire Hathaway takeover isn't a bad idea -- I'll take a few shares of BH for each of my shares of CKFR)
