M2 PRESSWIRE-4 March 1999-INFORMIX: Informix and Jones Business
Systems partner to drive Linux into the commercial environment (C)1994-99
M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

* Development Tools From Informix Will Significantly Expand Availability of
Commercial Applications On Linux

SAN JOSE, Calif., Linux World Expo -- Informix Corporation (NASDAQ:
IFMX), the technology leader in enterprise database-powered solutions and
award winning Linux vendor, and Jones Business Systems (JBS), a national
systems integrator and value added distributor, today announced a
distribution alliance to make Informix's industry leading line of Linux software
available through JBS's extensive reseller channels. JBS will offer Informix's
Linux products as software only, or bundled with their "white box" servers to
create a complete Linux hardware and software solution. Informix's
leadership in Linux software, matched with JBS's decade of experience in
UNIX-based software and hardware, creates an enticing option for
businesses interested in Linux as a commercial solution.

"Informix's relationship with JBS provides an excellent opportunity to expand
our reach to the growing commercial Linux environment," said Janet Smith,
director, product marketing and management at Informix. "This partnership
should be the first of many as we see Linux embraced throughout the
enterprise. These new relationships and product offerings place us in the
forefront of the effort to see Linux as a commercial solution, and allows
Informix to forge its position as a leader in this market."

"The escalating popularity of Linux-based business solutions has caused us
to devote considerable time and energy to our Linux offerings," said Scott
Shadle, JBS president and CEO. "Over the past few months, major
application vendors such as Informix have recognized Linux as a suitable
platform for servers. Our adoption of Linux allows us to offer our VARs
quality solutions with a lower total cost of ownership."

Informix tools for Linux

Informix continues its commitment to Linux by announcing free development
licenses of its popular INFORMIX-4GL and INFORMIX-SQL application
development tools. This limited time offer will be available from March 1 to
June 30, 1999. The goal of the promotion is to rapidly expand the number of
applications offered to the Linux community, making Linux an even more
viable commercial solution. Availability of these tools on Linux enable
developers and VARs to quickly port thousands of existing INFORMIX-4GL
and INFORMIX-SQL applications to the Linux platform. Additionally,
developers can easily create powerful new applications for the growing Linux
market.

INFORMIX-4GL is comprised of INFORMIX-4GL Compiled, INFORMIX-4GL
Rapid Development System, and INFORMIX-4GL Interactive Debugger.
These tools provide a comprehensive, fourth-generation application
development environment that provides power and flexibility without the need
for third-generation languages like C or COBOL. INFORMIX-SQL is a suite
of five application development tools, suitable for novices and experienced
programmers alike, enabling rapid creation of database applications.

Availability

INFORMIX-4GL and INFORMIX-SQL will be available from JBS
(http://www.jbsi.com), Informix TeleSales (1-800-331-1763) and other
Informix vendors.
