Also, profit comes from a percentage of shipping.

This post looks like dubious information + its from the yahoo thread which tells you something right there, however my experience is that direct channel vendors do indeed obtain revenue via "shipping and handling" charges. The charges are too high to begin with, based on the business model that the shippers have currently which is only beginning to change, and the direct vendors pad a little on the top of that.
