Scumbria,

I'm considering purchasing some NSM stock very soon. I think they are starting to build a little momentum in the still relatively small windows terminal market with the Hewlett Packard, WYSE, Siemens, and Boundless design wins. They will be showing three new set-top-box designs at CeBIT. Pantera looks like a winner as does the one chip scanner solution. WebPAD is a hit in the making.

Recent reports indicate the analog and mixed-signal business is doing well.

We're left with the dying x86 PC solutions business and the dead LAN division. If they could turn things around in either, the company could be surprisingly healthy. The competition in LAN seems even more intense than that in the low-end PC business, so I'm writing that off for now.

I think MXi could be a solid player in the low-end PC business, but I want to hear what the status of this product and their "0.18 process" is.

The stock is priced like the company is going out of business and almost everyone hates it. The risk/reward ratio looks favorable here.

All comments appreciated,

Bob

RE:"Your perceptions about the current and past leadership of
NSM/Cyrix are misguided, to say the least."...

I was here, touting Cyrix, long before you came on the BB. If I remember, you first showed up touting IDT. I believed in Cyrix but after some nice designs, they couldn't follow through. I'm very familiar with Cyrixes past management, from Jerry Rogers, to Jay Swent to the Tobak. Never really a good mix. It's easy to believe in Hallas vision but one thing I've learned over the years is that delivering the chips is a whole lot different than dreaming about them. Not only that but if you don't deliver them on time they are obsolete. Going up against one of the greatest corporations in world history is no easy task. When you throw in AMD who has done an amazing job of ramping up speed grades, it's pretty easy to see that Cyrix has done little in the last couple of years. The M-II-333 sells for under $50.
AMD and Intel soon won't even be making those speed grades.
They are just getting to .25u. They are 8 months late on the MXi/Cayenne core. NSMs stock has dropped from 42 to 10. The growing pains are getting a little long in the tooth.
Maybe the PCOAC chip will rescue them. Do you even own stock in this company?

Jim
