Invesco Fund Manager: Deregulation Will Drive Telecoms

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Deregulation of the telecommunications industry in the U.S. and Europe will drive the sector for the next 10 years, according to Brian Hayward, senior manager of the Invesco Worldwide Communications Fund.

Deregulation "just started last year in January in Europe, but it's progressing more quickly" than in the U.S., Hayward told CNBC on Wednesday.

Rapid deregulation has created opportunities for upstart companies, leading to several years of strong growth, Hayward said.

His stock picks are America Online Inc. (AOL), Colt Telecom Group Plc (COLTY), Cisco Systems Inc. (CSCO), and Nokia Corp. (NOKA).
