This is supposed to be based on the Product Line Director's discussion of the design process:

The K7 will have taken a total of about 18 months to go from concept to final shipping product. As microprocessors go, that's pretty good. In fact, a large portion of the lecture was devoted to discussion of how the K7 was designed

He is very explicit about this. Is it possible this article is a hoax? I thought it was remarkably well put together for him having only heard the lecture the day before.
