Globe says Research in Motion jumps back to life

The Globe and Mail reports in its Thursday edition that during the past six trading
sessions, the shares of Research in Motion fell 24 per cent, but they jumped back
to life yesterday. Analysts are baffled by volatility in the stock, which had a sharp
runup earlier this year, almost doubling to $19 by Feb. 5 from just under $10 on
the first day of trading in January. The company attracted attention when it
launched a new product called Blackberry in January, allowing users of its
interactive pager to access E-mail from their desktop computers. But some
insiders were sellers in the $15 range in January, to the dismay of some investors.
For some time, there has been a flight to larger stocks as investors fear that
smaller companies will be more vulnerable in an economic downturn. As well, the
company's data pagers will face competing products slated to hit the market later
this year.
