John -
looks like DELL is getting their act together. They needed to develop a long term alternative to the box business which leverages their strengths - the online store idea may eventually fill that bill, if their usual great execution carries forward, and if they get the 'internet business' halo.

The IBM announcement goes to the heart of DELL's enterprise problem - lack of a deep service arm, and the business model incompatibility which keeps them from building that arm. If this turns reciprocal, and DELL works something to help IBM with their PC market problems, it could be huge. Also risky, but the kind of thing DELL could execute. They are the only ones in the business who could execute that strategy.

I have been waiting for several months to see these kinds of moves from DELL. Too early to say how it will all play out but I am very encouraged.
