Quote Systems: some thoughts on PCQuote

I have been using a quote system (PCQuotes/Real Tick III) separate from a brokerage for the past few years. I figured that this way I could change brokers if they didn't meet my execution requirements.

The PCQuotes $300 package include MarketMaker Level II info etc. fed out over the internet.

This company has been going down the drain. At first they used to tell me that my data was running behind by a minute or two because of my modem connection speed. When I went to 56K V.90 and the same thing began to happen I noticed they blamed my ISP. When gaps of minutes of data appeared in their charts (INDICATING NO DATA BEING FED) they blamed something else.

But I've personally noticed the following: The company doesn't keep on top of technical errors. The other day they put up the wrong version of their software to download. If you downloaded that version you could not connect for data at all since the permissions database wasn't set up. You had to reload the old version you were using. There was no way to know that you were downloading the wrong version. They never informed anybody that they had put up the wrong version.

I reported the problem logging into their system to them at midnight. The next day, a trading day, some 9 hours later, they hadn't bothered to call me and inform me of the problem and its solution. This for $300 a month!!! Of coursethey didn't discover the problem until they walked into the office that Day!!!

Believe it or not this company doesn't have anyone who takes responsibility for informing the customers when they find out there is a problem like this. They apparently flush all of their technical line answering machine messages at the beginning of the day without bothering to listen to them. And they open up for business 1/2 hour before the market.

In my day if you ran a data feed you staffed it so that you didn't come into the office and find out that your customers were not going to get their data feed a half hour before the market opens. And you had a plan for informing your customers how to recover. Now it seems being in the data feed business means just getting a reliable cash feed into your corporate account from your customers credit card company, and making sure you have enough if ands or buts in your contracts with your custoemrs so that you don't have to provide any service to the customer at all.

Has anybody found a professional company to deal with to provide quote feeds? PC Quotes can keep their bankers hours.
