That is a good point, though my comments were intended more for comparing trades of comparable not to compare smaller faster trades with larger, longer term trades.

My thoughts were reaction to the reference to Gary Smith's claim that his position strategy was optimized with a 32% stop loss, cashing out at 5% profit. While I believe his backtesting came up with a 32% stop loss as being optimum for his strategy, it seems to me that this big a cushion would take long enough that a strategy that stops you out of a loser sooner and moving into a new position would be more likely to succeed. Again assuming similar trade size.

Hey, I just got a great idea. Use Gary Smith's buy signals wait for them go down 20%, THEN buy with a 12% stop loss and cash out at 25% profit. If his original system is profitable, imagine how good this one is! (No offense to Gary, just a joke.)

I have already benefited from some of your strategies for mutual fund management. Hopefully I become good enough that I had add to the thread in addition to learning. I hope my beginner questions and comments are appropriate for this thread.
