Broadcom perhaps? I believe they make the chips for cable modems and digital set top boxes.

Stock has been pummelled recently.

Fred,

I am going give your Digital TV question a whirl. This quote is from Oustanding Investor Digest (if you do not currently subscribe, take a good hard look at it ... it is definitely worth the money in my opinion) from a reasonable source: Bob Rodriguez of First Pacific Advisors. His work has come up with around 500 microprocessors per HDTV versus 10 in an average TV today.

I can neither confirm nor deny this. It is, however, more than an order of magnitude more from the evidence and conversations that I have had ... but, is it 50 x's more? I do not know. If you want to get it from the horse's mouth, try to contact Philips Electronics (the IR guy is Alan Cathcart ... a Brit ... so, you will not have trouble understanding him ... you may be able to e-mail them at their website ... or try the same with Sony or Panasonic or Pioneer).

I would look at the move to HDTV as just another aspect of growth in the broader semiconductor market and not as anything that has not been factored in (at least to some extent) in the the projected growth of the industry ... along with things from smart seats in autos that detect and process the weight of the occupant and adjust the air bag force and seatbelt tensioners automatically ... to a Dualit toaster that can better tell when your toast has reached that perfect golden hue ...
