Gee...I was forced to sell my whole position ($400) of NCR. Guess I'll buy one share of Yahoo and one share of AMZN...use what's left for commissions.

It sounds pretty bad, but from a "good for the company" perspective, it's the lesser of many evils. At&T has been doing voluntary odd-lot buyback programs for years - can you imagine how many people own just a few shares of that company? The cost of servicing those shareholders in today's environment is ridiculous, and not fair to those or any other investors in the company. Then you little old NCR, which inherited the shareholder base when they got spun off from T. What else are they to do?

I guess it might have been perceived more favorably if they had gone to the shareholders to get approval to do a 105% of market buyback for holders of less than 10 shares - that way everyone would have been a "winner".
