Crumb rubber is reduced from chunks of rubber which largely come from tires which are broken down into pieces 1 square inch and sometimes larger. There are large stockpiles in the US of both rubber tires and chunk rubber. The FASC micronizer takes the crumb rubber, and possibly the chunk rubber and reduces it to a pretty fine powder which approaches talc in consistency.

Up to 10% of new tires can be made up of this powder. Also there are industrial applications such as for asphalt, roofing material, paints etc.

The used tire problem is a world wide headache. Tire fires in stock piles start up by spontaneous compbustion and are hard to extinguish. They are an eyesore, take up space and are breeding grounds for mosquitos. A method of reducing this waste to powder would be a bonanza, aside from the industrial uses.

The firm that does this first will take off like a skyrocket. There have been many attempts to deal with the problem both by mechanical reduction and chemical decomposition. None have worked as far as I know.

IMO the reason for the activity in FASC is because it looks like the overheating problem which has plagued the micronizer in reducing rubber is being solved in Ireland. If it gets into commerical production watch out. There is a world wide market for these machines.

WOW!!!! Now that's a fascinating and thorough company outline. I'm printing it out so that I can study it a bit and will be getting back to the thread with some questions. I hope somebody here is an expert because I found this really interesting and intriguing.
