Legalization does remove it, to a large extent. What you usually find is the mob using the legal business (like trucking or construction) to perform other operations (money laundering from drug activity....which is another case for legalizing drugs...funny how that all works together, isn't it?)

As for the mob in gambling, they remain on the fringes, as I pointed out. When most of their illegal activities (drugs) are legalized, the mob will fade away over time.

I don't believe I stated that relegalization would rid the mob with certainty immediately upon repeal of the statute. There are illegal bootleggers to this day, but they aren't in control of the distribution of distilled spirits.

However, criminalization puts control into the hands of organized crime.
