From the news release:

They also said Dell was not replacing existing suppliers, but would use supplies from IBM to produce equipment for expected future growth.

FUTURE GROWTH....

From Malaysia! Yeah that is the hub of technological innovation for sure.<vbg>

Baz....: This my friend is HUGE and here are some of the reasons:-

Access to technology and steady supply of products.
Access to high end servers and storage products.
With this agreement DELL contribute 33% of IBM's OEM business, meaning
discounted prices and higher profits for DELL

and this above all: This is just not a 'procurement agreement' is what they announced, now you read into it and stay tuned.

From the periphery it appears this deal is better for IBM and if you believe that I got a bridge up on Brooklyn for sale and I get you a good deal too.

I am sure I missed a lot of the advatages here but I am sure someone will fill the gaps or you can keep reading the press for more indepth analysis in the days ahead..all I can say is this just the beginning of something beautiful.<g>

The significance of this deal is for long term planning.

Dell needs cutting edge technology and reliable suppliers especially as the company grows. IBM will provide the stability to take initiatives without questioning the suppliers ability to keep up.
