Web Fund Manager Cook Shifts Away From 'True Internet' Cos.

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Paul Cook, manager of the Munder NetNet Fund, said he is shifting away from "true Internet plays" toward companies with more offline operations.

As the Internet sector "continues to decouple from its underlying valuation levels," Cook told CNBC Wednesday, "an opportunistic investor can take advantage of a wild swing to the bottom or a wild swing to the top."

But Cook said he favors companies whose technologies provide the infrastructure for the Internet, such as Oracle Corp. (ORCL), Cisco Systems Inc. (CSCO) and Sun Microsystems Inc. (SUNW).

He also likes retailers who have expanded their presence on the Internet such as Gap Inc. (GPS) and Office Depot Inc. (ODP).
