These's plenty of empirical evidence of the success of free-market policies out there for any one willing to look.

For instance, the Wall Street Journal puts out an annual survey of the world that ranks the relative freedom of countries by a number of criteria. They boil all these variables down to one number and plot it against things like GDP or per capita income.

It dramatically demonstrates an unmistakable correlation between freedom and prosperity.

The danger in China is that if they fail ( and they will unless drastic changes are made ) their failure will be attributed to free market policies.
