Mike,
what that diagram is touting is probably that Siemens is offering a chip-set that combines
a G-LITE transceiver and POTS interface into one.
at the CO.
What that means is a single line card provides both G.LITE and POTS interfaces and the DSLAM functionality can be integrated into a DLC or Switch- eliminating a separate box.
ADSL-Lite and G.Lite are a sub-set of ADSL that allows operation without a splitter at the subscriber end. The trade-off being lower ADSL data rates and possibly some interference to the data traffic while the phone is ringing or off-hook.
The POTS splitter at the subscriber's end is a major operations and cost hurdle to the
deployment of ADSL.
