Lucent enters 3 European contracts
NEW YORK, March 4 (Reuters) - Lucent Technologies said Thursday it entered into three European contracts, including one to install data networking systems, software and services on Viatel Inc.'s Circe Pan-European Network.
Under the trial agreement, Lucent will be able to use Viatel's network for two years to test its networking products and services for the European market.

Initially, Lucent's data networking systems and software will link Frankfurt, London, Amsterdam and New York, Lucent said. No terms of the deal were provided.

Lucent also said it signed a deal to provide optical networking equipment to EuroTunnel to expand that companies communications network between Paris and London. No terms were provided.

Additionally, Lucent said it would provide Internet access technology and related services to the X-Stream Network, a United Kingdom-based Internet services provider, in a $28 million deal.

Lucent is the world's largest maker of telecommunications equipment

Tyco Submarine, Siemens Unit Sign $300M ARCOS 1 Cable Pact

MORRISTOWN, N.J. -- Tyco International Ltd.'s (TYC) Tyco Submarine Systems Ltd. unit and Siemens AG's Norddeutsche Seekabelwerke unit signed a supply contract with CEN-TA Telecom and the New World Network for the Arcos 1 cable system valued at $300 million.

In a press release Tuesday, Tyco said the cable system will incorporate its fiber optic technology and the capability of upgrading via wave division multiplexing. The system will connect the U.S. with parts of Latin America and the Caribbean.

Tyco expects the cable system to be completed in the second quarter 2000.

In a separate release, Tyco said it signed a supply contract with Esat Telecom Ltd. (ESATY) for Esat II, an undersea fibre-optic cable system connecting Dublin and Southport, U.K. Tyco expects to complete the project in September, It will be owned by Esat.

Esat Telecom is an Irish telecommunications service provider.

Tyco Submarine supplies undersea communications systems and services.
