It turned out to be kind of a Keystone Cops routine. The woman who sent the letter (we'll call her Ms. A) to the lot owner copied the parents. The parents blew up (almost literally), complaining that Ms. A didn't talk to them about the situation. So Ms. A, feeling badly, retrieves the letter to the lot owner from her mail box before the mail lady picks it up (Ms. A hand delivered that letter to the neighborhood people). Then, Ms. A authors a new missive explaining her side of the story, the basic thrust of which is she talked to the Pres. of the Homeowner's Assoc. who talked to the parents, so she didn't feel a need to talk to them herself. She also says that she talked to the kids 3 separate times and it was clear to her that the kids weren't going to stop because of her complaints. If fact, they asked her how much she thought the lot could be sold for, as if they were going to buy it.

Anyway, the parents gave Ms. A enough comfort that they were going to put a stop to this so she didn't bother to get the owner involved. I have no idea where the kids are going to ride now, but they and their parents now know that they'll catch hell if they do it in our neighborhood.

I think the parents were pretty understanding when it was all said and done, but they are really upset at Ms. A, and some friendships are probably going to be broken, hopefully only temporarily, over this. Lucky for us we were basically bystanders in the whole thing and came out of it unscathed.

I do know that my boys will probably raise hell when they become teenagers, so we'll get ours then!!
