i agree with you completely....especially in your "chinese wall"
comment which is significant...by the very practice of ibm setting up separate cost centers, as in the oem sales division that you have mentioned...they are following an all too disasterous path which topples huge cumbersome corporations...sort of an in-house conglamerate...hp recognizes this with restructuring...ibm mimics what happened to ge, westinghouse once main stays manufacturers of electrical equipment...their oem sales group strengthened the competition so much that internal divisions were closed or sold off...

the dynamic favors dell...i truly believe ibm will eventually exit box making...thanks your well received comments..ed a.

p.s....i try to keep comments as basic as possible..not to confuse others...my view on bto manufacturing as "simple"...must be kept in proper perspective...the concept is basic...the implementation requires committment...
