Storage is one of the fastest growing parts of the technology industry because of all the information being generated by online commerce and the Internet. The worldwide market for storage devices is expected to grow to $31.1 billion in 2002 from $18.1 billion last year, according to market researcher International Data Corp. ''Dell recognizes that their growth markets are slowing down and that they have to diversify,'' said Ashok Kumar, an analyst U.S. Bancorp Piper Jaffray Inc., who rates Dell ''buy.''
