Keith, This is the best I can do with good Bearcat news:

CINCINNATI 76, SOUTH FLORIDA 56
-------------------------------

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama (Ticker) -- After South Florida threw the
first punch, Pete Mickeal took charge for seventh-ranked
Cincinnati.

Mickeal matched a career-high with 28 points on 13-of-15
shooting from the field to lead Cincinnati to a 76-56 victory
over South Florida in the quarterfinals of the Conference USA
tournament at the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center.

"Pete's been the best player in the league over the last month
or so," Cincinnati coach Bob Huggins said.

Cincinnati (26-4), the regular season champion and top seed in
the tournament, will meet the winner of the game between
Southern Mississippi and North Carolina-Charlotte in the
semifinals on Friday night.

The Bearcats are seeking their third Conference USA tournament
title in four years. Over the last eight years, Cincinnati is
18-1 in conference tournament play under Huggins.

Mickeal, the team's leading scorer and rebounder, scored 18 of
his points in the first half when Cincinnati built a 43-33 lead.
Melvin Leavett had 20 points for the Bearcats.

South Florida (14-14), the ninth seed in the tournament,
suffered its ninth straight loss to the Bearcats, including a
64-53 defeat last Thursday. Artha Reeves led the Bulls with 14
points and Shaddrick Jenkins added 11.

South Florida started the game on fire, hitting eight of its
first 11 shots for an 18-12 advantage. But Mickeal hit a pair
of baskets inside as Cincinnati went on an 8-0 run.

The Bearcats later closed the half with a 13-2 spurt. Levett
converted a pair of layups and a three-pointer and Mickeal added
a short banker and a dunk in the run.

"Our ball movement was the key," Huggins said. "Once we started
moving the ball better, it was hard for them to cover."

Despite shooting 56.5 percent in the first half, the Bulls were
just 9-of-28 from the field in the second half and pulled no
closer than 10 points.

A pair of free throws by Michael Horton with 5:20 left capped an
8-1 run and increased Cincinnati's lead to 68-51.

Star freshman forward B.B. Waldon fouled out late in the game
and finished with just 10 points for the Bulls.

South Florida beat Memphis in overtime Wednesday night in the
first round.

Cheers,

Bob
