You're completely right. If BRCM was a company sitting on top of fat margins waiting to be plucked, I would be running scared. But Broadcom's business model is predicated on entry by other competitors; it is pricing products very competitively to fend off competitive entry. Sure, it's foreboding when you hear news of potential competition (Conexant/Intel/3Com) all in one week but they cannot touch BRCM right now, and they are not a threat in cable modem chips--the real prize.

If it really opens below 50 tomorrow, I'm a buyer.
