Bill,

I've actually gotten some conflicting information by private email about McKinley, who is doing what, and exactly what it is. I've done a bit of web-research myself on it and it seems that both companies are pretty closed-mouthed about it.

BUT:

Intel has it in their roadmap. Claim it will be second generation IA-64 (pretty much as I said) with roughly 2x the performance of Merced. No mention whatsoever of HP that I could find.

HP refers to McKinley only as one piece of the "upgrade path" from PA-RISC to IA-64. Again, no mention of any actual HP involvement in developing the thing.

My conclusion is that Intel's in the driver seat on this one. (The alternative is to believe that HP's PR is so inept that they are completely ignoring a major ongoing development which investors deserve to know about.)

Anybody with comments, make them public or save your breath. If you want to make allegations about what I've said, have the guts to do it here. I don't respond to thread-related private email.
