OT-Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligent Life fruitless ... WHY?

Since Marconi invented radio in 1895 our bubble of electromagnetic signals has spread into the galaxy. It's now a little more than 30 parsecs, 100 light years, in diameter. Our Radio, TV, broadcasts are an overwhelming BLAST, notifying any IET race of our presence.

There's no doubt that the universe is filled with IET races, right? Watch Star Trek or read Sagan! If each star in our galaxy were described on a single page, the shelves of the NYC library couldn't hold the books!!! So, with faith in Darwin the conclusion is fixed: intelligent life abounds "out there."

Doubtless many IET races are older than we, far advanced, with technologies vastly superior to ours; and they've been blasting signals into the void for thousands, millions, of years ...right? We've been listening, 50 years night and day, searching the sky for some faint signal, some transmission, some revelation of ETI. Our instruments monitor 1,000,000 RF channels simultaneously. What have we heard? ? ? Nothing, not a peep, nada, zilch, zero! WHY NOT?

Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh! I forgot the single exception, an ETI that has communicated with humans ever since He made us:

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the Earth
The heavens are the heavens of Jehovah, but the Earth hath he given to the children of men
Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the Earth
The righteous shall inherit the land and dwell therein forever!
He stretcheth out the North over empty space, and hangeth the earth upon nothing.

Could it be we're the first of our type? That when Eden is restored the galaxies will come to sing with IET signals? Some believe in signals we don't get, I in a Paradise that isn't yet! Both require religious faith! And I have enough evidence to convince any open minded skeptic, the finer a scientist he is the better. And if I win, you get to live forever!

Yes, a lot is beginning to be done by farming out parts of scientific projects to individuals with computers. It's a much-enhanced version of what the American Association of Variable Star Observers used to do (and still do) with backyard telecopes, collecting data on light curves of stars.

There is a whole school of thought that argues that listening for orderly radio signals that might be coming from other creatures elsewhere in the Universe is a complete waste of time and money. On the whole, it seems like a more promising idea to me than inventing new ways to kill people, which is where huge amounts of money go. Philip Morrison, of MIT and book editor for many many years of the Scientific American, is a strong supporter of the SETI.

In any case, it's wonderful that personal computers, such as those supplied by Dell, are more powerful than anything available to any scientist only a couple of decades ago.
