Read the most important section of what Smith Barney has to say TODAY

This is the portion you should pay the most attention to of the Smith Barney report... the rest is basically commentary on the non-IBM/DELL factor.

"We have communicated with Maxtor management TODAY--management indicates that the quarter continues to track to plan and is in line with expectations and that its relationship with DELL remains very much intact.

We maintain our current estimate of $0.15 for the current quarter and $0.94 for the year (1999)....

We continue to believe that the weakness in a number of the HDD stocks is over-done and affords an excellent buying opportunity for long-term investors.

We reiterate our BUY rating on MXTR shares."
